Our Commitment to Sustainability-focused Initiatives

Aurora Material Solutions is committed to being a responsible and forward-thinking leader in the thermoplastics industry, continuously seeking ways to minimize the environmental impact of its manufacturing operations.

Our goal is to enhance the quality of life for our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate—an ambition that guides the company’s day-to-day decisions and actions.

Aurora Material Solutions operates eight manufacturing facilities across the U.S. and Canada. We integrate pollution prevention, resource conservation, and sustainability-focused practices into our business decisions. Our team is continuously working to improve operations and technologies to help reduce waste, prevent pollution, and strive to minimize health and safety risks in our manufacturing going forward compared to our past procedures.

Aurora Material Solutions is proud to have achieved +Vantage Vinyl Gold verification, an industry-recognized standard that confirms our leadership in sustainability-focused practices. This independent, third-party recognition assures our customers that we follow advanced practices in environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and resource efficiency. For our partners, this means greater confidence in choosing materials that can meet their sustainability goals, help reduce their environmental impact, and contribute to responsible supply chains. Our commitment is also reflected in having our products listed in the Ecomedes database database, making it easier for architects, designers, engineers, and builders to source sustainability-focused product solutions for commercial construction projects.

Leading by Example

In 2021, Aurora Material Solutions set a goal to identify and execute a 1.5% to 3% savings per year against our prior year’s energy and waste expenditure (based on consumption per unit for all our products manufactured). For starters, Aurora Material Solutions identified a baseline assessment to understand the current state of each production facility, including a benchmark against common best practices. Current initiatives to continue our work towards this goal include upgrading factory lighting to energy-efficient LED lamps, using energy-efficient motors & drives, and installing solar panels on the roof of manufacturing facilities.

Aurora Material Solutions is committed to meeting or exceeding all applicable environmental permitting requirements. Beyond compliance, we focus on minimizing waste streams across our operations year-over-year, by working to ensure that resources are used efficiently and responsibly. These efforts support our long-term conservation goals while helping to reduce our overall environmental footprint.

AVOIDANCE IN 2024

Aurora Material Solutions recycles or repurposes its scrap and off-grade PVC, by selling it to recyclers or repurposing it into industrial end-use applications. Each year, these efforts divert 5–8 million pounds of our thermoplastic compound scrap to recyclers and results in our repurposing of over 10 million pounds of material.

Aurora Materials Solutions has taken its recycling practices to a higher level by acquiring Lastique International, a thermoplastic recycler compounder based in Louisville, Kentucky, in December of 2024. This strategic acquisition marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey to enhance its sustainability-focused product solutions that are offered to customers. Lastique International is a leading reseller of “off-spec” thermoplastic materials and a prominent recycler of rigid PVC and other polymers. With the acquisition, Aurora now is able to offer recycled content product solutions that contain 10% to 100% PVC recycled content depending on customers’ specifications.

Maximizing the Handprint

Beyond working to help minimize our manufacturing and operations environmental impact as set out above are our efforts to maximize the downstream impact, or handprint, of our products where possible. For example, Auroralite™ RPVC cellular foam – a lightweight, low-density wood replacement – can make more parts with less compound to make extrusion profiles up to 70% lighter as compared to wood. Aurora Material Solutions is committed to helping create a more sustainability-focused world. Our customers now have more reasons to make us their first choice in polymer compound solutions.
